Last Sunday, agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Chicago field office apprehended 40-year-old Leonardo Ignot-Osto, a Mexican national with a criminal history that includes child abduction and retail theft. Ignot-Osto, who had previously entered the U.S. illegally on multiple occasions, was captured in Chicago after being released from state custody, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Ignot-Osto has a record of illegal entries into the United States, with at least five attempts since 2005. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detailed that the Border Patrol had encountered Ignot-Osto four times in the same year, and he voluntarily returned to Mexico after each of these encounters. Following another illegal re-entry, Ignot-Osto was convicted on April 15, 2025, for abduction and enticing a child under the age of 17.

Following his conviction for child abduction/luring a child under 17, Ignot-Osto served a year in prison before ICE took him into custody. During his time at the Scott County Jail, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged an immigration detainer. After serving his sentence, the agency arrested Ignot-Osto on November 16. He is currently detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and awaits removal proceedings.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement statement emphasized the organization's commitment to public safety and the removal of criminal aliens from the United States. To report crimes or suspicious activity related to this case or any other immigration-related offenses, the public can dial 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or use the online tip form provided by the agency.
