A Medina Valley Independent School District elementary student has been disciplined after being found with a loaded magazine at Ladera Elementary School. In a letter to the families, Principal Laura Davila explained that the .22-caliber rifle magazine was discovered in a bathroom by a school marshal, leading to an immediate probe into the incident, KSAT reports.
Upon discovery of the ammunition holder, school officials acted quickly, identifying and interrogating the student linked to the magazine. "We ask families to remind their children that weapons, ammunition, and prohibited items of any kind are never permitted on school grounds," Davila emphasized in her letter. Fox San Antonio reports that the student admitted to bringing it to campus.
No weapon was found on the school premises, and it has been confirmed that the student in question did not have access to any firearms at home. The discovery did not accompany any threats to the student body or the staff. The school district's spokesperson, Selena Viera, told KSAT that the student faced disciplinary actions consistent with the district's student code of conduct.
"Any item of this nature is treated seriously and investigated immediately," Davila asserted, as noted by Fox San Antonio. While no further details about the disciplinary measures or legal consequences have been released, the event serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers lurking in our schools, even at the elementary level.
