The quiet of an Ohio neighborhood was disrupted early this morning when the Lancaster Police Department responded to a 911 call about gunshots heard at a residence on Little Pine Lane. According to the Lancaster Police Department's social media post, at around 2:08 a.m., officials arrived at ongoing gunfire from within the house, which necessitated a perimeter and brought specialized units to the scene.
As the officers reached the site, gunshots continued, putting the officers at risk, but officers did not return fire instead, they established a safe zone, called in the LPD Special Response Team (SRT) and the LPD Hostage Negotiator Team (HNT), starting a prolonged negotiation with the shooter. The situation lasted about six hours. In a display of restraint and tactical patience, police contained the situation without using lethal force, despite the suspect shooting in the direction of law enforcement personnel.
The standoff concluded with 37-year-old Edward Pressley Jr. surrendering to authorities. Pressley, subsequently transported to Fairfield Medical Center for chemical gas exposure, is expected to face Felonious Assault charges. As the LPD Facebook post indicated, the incident is resolved with no further danger to the surrounding community.
