On Friday at 2 p.m., "En Sintonía con el Concejo" on Radio América will feature Montgomery County’s “Leave the Leaves for a Better Environment” campaign, which encourages residents to leave fallen leaves on lawns and gardens to improve soil health, retain water, and support local ecosystems. County spokespeople Luis Aguirre, Ana Arriaza, and Mary Travaglini will explain how this practice benefits pollinators and enriches nutrients in the soil, according to the Montgomery County.
The campaign also promotes environmental responsibility by discouraging gas-powered leaf blowers, which are prohibited, and recommending electric alternatives to reduce air and noise pollution. This initiative is part of Montgomery County’s broader effort to foster sustainable practices among its residents, as reported by the Montgomery County.
The radio show En Sintonía con el Concejo, hosted by Marcela Rodriguez, features Montgomery County’s Asthma Program, part of the Department of Health and Human Services for over 20 years. The program provides free asthma workshops for the Spanish-speaking community through the Latino Health Initiative. Luis Aguirre, the program manager, said, "Participants learn how to identify asthma symptoms, use medications correctly, and reduce environmental triggers such as dust, mold, and smoke to create healthier homes." Residents can contact the program for enrollment and assistance. The show is a partnership between the Montgomery County Council and Radio America.
