The Long Beach Police Department recently updated the public on a significant development regarding a series of cold cases that had been haunting the community for years. On October 17, 2025, homicide detectives apprehended Glenn Cox, a 39-year-old inmate at Avenal State Prison, linking him to three murders between 2004 and 2007. This arrest was catalyzed by a confession Cox made in December 2023, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department.
Cox, already serving time for a separate murder and attempted murder, now faces additional grave charges, including three counts of murder, three of attempted murder, and possession of firearms as a felon. His confessions and subsequent investigation by the LBPD reanimated interest in cases that had grown cold, bringing a glimmer of hope to relatives of the victims looking for closure after many years of silence and uncertainty.
The cases date back to 2004, the earliest being the shooting on East Pleasant Street, which claimed the lives of Carlos Serrano and Jermy Kershaw and injured two others. The other incidents include the 2007 murder of Dino Marks on Cherry Avenue and a non-fatal shooting on East Pacific Coast Highway, all believed to be gang-related activities. These arrests, while serving as a delayed form of justice, also act as a stern reminder of Long Beach's turbulent past with gang violence and the long memory of the law when it comes to such heinous crimes.
Detectives reportedly found corroborating evidence that supports Cox's confessions, shedding light on the narratives that had been left incomplete for over a decade. The details of their findings have not been disclosed, but the cases were presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will consider them for filing. Amid rekindled grief, families and the community at large brace for a revisitation of past tragedies as justice, at last, seems within reach.
