It was an ordinary fundraiser at Ozaukee Family Services that turned into an extraordinary experience for three women, as they won a "Law and Order" day courtesy of the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. Their day began with one-on-one conversations with Judge Williams and Sheriff Knowles, accompanied by a lunch that set the stage for an intimate look at the inner workings of the criminal justice system.
During the detailed tour of the courthouse explained by Judge Williams herself, the winners took their places in the jury box and had the rare chance to sit on the judge's bench, possibly even taking turns wielding her gavel. Watching an afternoon of court cases unfold before them, they peered behind the curtain of legal proceedings, learning directly from the bench's vantage point, as noted in a social media post by the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office was their next destination, where Sheriff Knowles gave them a tour, showcasing the responsibilities and the breadth of the Office of the Sheriff. The experience of getting "behind bars" was noted as a real eye-opener, providing a tangible sense of the reality faced by those on the other side of the law.
Both Judge Williams and Sheriff Knowles shared their passion for law and order, and their pride in the Ozaukee County community was palpable throughout the day. They "enjoy educating people about the work they do and the inner workings of the criminal justice system," the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office post affirmed.
