Starting December 18, AREA15 in Las Vegas will open the Malibu Barbie Cafe, a pop-up restaurant and roller rink created by Mattel and Bucket Listers. The venue is inspired by the "groovy beachside energy" of 1970s Malibu and follows similar pop-ups in New York, Chicago, and Melbourne. Derek Berry, President of Experiences at Bucket Listers, said, "Barbie has proven to be one of history's ultimate icons," and added, "It means so much for us to bring exclusive experiences like this to life for our community. We cannot wait for Vegas to see what we have in store," according to 8 News Now.
Julie Freeland, Vice President of Global Location-Based Entertainment at Mattel, shared the company’s excitement about bringing the Barbie experience to Las Vegas, saying, "At Mattel, we are always looking for exciting, new ways to bring the Barbie experience to life. From the décor to the menu, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to celebrate the iconic Barbie style," as per Neon Review Journal. The Malibu Barbie Café at AREA15 features a nostalgic roller rink, Barbie-themed décor, and exclusive merchandise, with $1 from every skate rental going to Girls Inc.
The café’s menu is crafted by Chef Becky Brown, celebrated as a "Chopped Champion" and "MasterChef" finalist, offering favorites like buttermilk pancakes and a smash burger with grilled onions, as mentioned by Neon Review Journal. Tickets are $25, which include food and merch credit, and visitors can join a waitlist for early access; events like cupcake decorating classes and 21+ skate nights provide a mix of family fun and adult nostalgia.
