Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer continued the state's Thanksgiving tradition by ceremonially pardoning two turkeys named Faygo and Vernors. Selected from 1,500 entries through a contest with a social media bracket, the turkeys engaged thousands of residents. Governor Whitmer said, "Today we continue our tradition of pardoning a turkey," and added, "But this year, we're pardoning two turkey sisters, a reminder that the most important part of the holiday season is coming together with friends and family," according to CBS News Detroit

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued her fourth and fifth Thanksgiving pardons, following Aiden Cluckinson in 2024, Dolly Pardon in 2023, and Mitch E. Gander in 2022. She said, "This Thanksgiving, I hope everyone enjoys time with loved ones, finds a way to give back to the community, and cheers on our Lions," as reported by WWMT. The event also included Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Tim Boring, who recognized the work of local farmers, producers, and food safety inspectors.

After the ceremonial pardon, the turkeys were taken to Macomb County Animal Control to live there. The event included Dr. Tim Boring and Jeff Randazzo, Director and Chief Animal Control Deputy of Macomb Animal Control. WLNS stated that the turkeys will stay in the county’s care instead of being part of a holiday meal.
