Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection will hold a free paper shredding and recycling event on November 15 at Montgomery College’s Rockville campus, Lot 13, in observance of America Recycles Day. Residents may bring up to five boxes or bags of personal papers for onsite shredding, though business materials will not be accepted, according to the Montgomery County.

“Secure shredding shouldn’t be a luxury or a hassle,” County Executive Marc Elrich said, noting that the activity supports the county’s zero-waste goals. Accepted materials include financial, legal, and medical papers, while items such as three-ring binders, spiral notebooks, plastics, and electronics are not allowed, as reported by the Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection will resume its community paper shredding event for the first time since 2020. Acting Director Jeff Seltzer said, “We haven't held this kind of event since before COVID closures in 2020, and we're so happy to offer this service to the community once again.” The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the trucks are full. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles while Clean Cut Shredding staff collect documents for secure disposal. The service is available only to Montgomery County residents.
