In efforts to heighten community engagement in crime-fighting, the Montgomery County Department of Police, in partnership with Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, has unveiled an innovative anonymous tip submission medium, streamlining the process for concerned citizens who want to share crucial crime-related information without compromising their identity.
The new system operates with simplicity: texting "MoCo" to "73TIPS" sends a direct link to an online form where tips can be discreetly submitted, and this initiative continues the tradition of community collaboration fostered by Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, but now with added convenience because it opens up avenues for individuals to aid law enforcement from their mobile devices without the fear of being traced or being called to make statements or appear in court, which could hinder participation from potential informants wary of public exposure or retribution, as stated on the county's website.
Assuring absolute anonymity, the department underscores that no names, calls recordings, or traces of phone numbers and online submissions will interfere with the privacy of the tipsters; the objective is to build a fortress of trust where community members can contribute comfortably. A potential reward reaching up to $10,000 for information that culminates in an arrest or indictment in Montgomery County but bear in mind the avenue is not designed for reporting in-progress crimes – those are still to be directed to 9-1-1, or 301-279-8000 for non-emergencies, with this new text option being a complementary asset intended to bolster the existing crime-solving infrastructure.
