During a charity procession in Philadelphia, two motorcycle officers were involved in a crash on I-95, causing minor injuries and temporary highway delays, reported 6abc. The incident occurred on Thursday morning as a group of officers participated in the WMMR Preston and Steve Camp Out for Hunger event.
According to 6abc, the crash took place near Penn's Landing between Washington Avenue and Christian Street when one officer maneuvered to avoid a stalled van and another swerved in reaction; both officers, one from Upper Dublin and another from Abington, sustained minor injuries, and the resulting backup spanned from Christian Street to Washington Avenue but after the injured officers were attended to the procession was able to complete its journey to the charity event which was its initial purpose before the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, PHL17 noted that the crash briefly halted traffic along the interstate as one officer quickly got back up while the other remained on the ground for a moment, before the procession was able to move to the shoulder, resuming shortly after a 10 to 15-minute delay.
NBC Philadelphia added to the account, stating that chopper footage showed a long line of motorcycles stopped after one officer's vehicle seemingly veered into another, though one officer jumped to his feet immediately, for some reason, the other stayed down for a moment before the entire procession could be rerouted to the shoulder, allowing for the resumption of normal traffic flow.
