In the spirit of honoring those who've served, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) extends a gesture of appreciation by offering cost-free rides to U.S. military veterans as well as active-duty personnel on Veterans Day. For the seventh year running, this service will be available across a variety of transit options, including Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail, MARC Train, and Mobility services. As reported by Fox Baltimore, eligible riders must present either a Department of Defense issued ID, a Department of Veterans Affairs issued ID, or a Maryland MVA Veteran-designated license or state ID to take advantage of the offer.
"Veterans and service members are an important part of our community," MTA's Holly Arnold was quoted in a Fox Baltimore report, reflecting the sentiment behind the initiative. The MTA encourages the use of their CharmPass mobile ticketing app for effortless ticketing solutions as well as the Transit app for real-time scheduling and navigation.
Approximately 360,000 veterans make their home in Maryland, with an additional 100,000 individuals either on active duty, serving in the Reserves or the National Guard, or being dependents, as Baltimore Fishbowl detailed.
