New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced a change to the city’s affordable housing program for city workers and military veterans. Starting on Friday, these groups will have a 10 percent set-aside in the Housing Connect lotteries, up from 5 percent.
Mayor Adams announced the housing program expansion on Veterans Day, aiming to support city workers and military veterans in finding housing within New York City. According to the Office of the Mayor, he said, "Municipal workers and veterans should be able to live in the city they love. With this new policy, we'll make it easier for city employees and veterans to live, raise a family, and retire in the five boroughs."
Acting HPD Commissioner Ahmed Tigani highlighted the dedication of more than 300,000 municipal employees. Commissioner James Hendon of New York City’s Department of Veterans’ Services added that the housing preference provides direct support for city workers and military veterans. To qualify, applicants must complete the Housing Connect application and submit proof of service, such as a recent pay stub or a DD214 form.
