New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd has reportedly been hospitalized again after being treated for a gunshot wound sustained earlier this month. In a statement obtained by ABC News, Boyd expressed that he has encountered "health issues" since his initial release from the hospital, and asked for understanding as he deals with this setback. "Please bare [sic] with me, I haven't been in communication much," Boyd wrote. "I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues."
Boyd, who is in his seventh season in the NFL but plagued by injuries this year, was apparently shot in the abdomen on November 16 during an altercation outside a Manhattan restaurant. After the incident, as CBS News detailed, the bullet traveled to his lung and became lodged in a pulmonary artery. Gratitude for support was a key theme in Boyd's communications as he noted, "I love and appreciate everyone of y'all dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can't get back to you," adding a hopeful note, "Head HIGH. God is not done with me yet!"
The Midtown shooting, which occurred following a verbal spat outside the Sei Less restaurant, has led NYPD detectives to a possible suspect. No arrests have been made, though a person of interest was identified partially thanks to a CrimeStoppers tip. Details from police shared by CBS News describe surveillance footage that shows the suspected shooter fleeing the scene and escaping in a white BMW.
Boyd has had an acclaimed football career, beginning with his time at the University of Texas and extending into the NFL, where he has played for teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Houston Texans, and Arizona Cardinals. Although he has not seen action this season due to a shoulder injury, the cornerback's ordeal has drawn attention not only to his health but also to off-field violence affecting athletes. In a bid for public assistance, the NYPD has encouraged anyone with information to contact their Crime Stoppers hotline.
