The Newark Division of Police recently wrapped up its 12th Citizen Police Academy (CPA), concluding with a session on K9 deployments. According to a social media post by the Newark Division of Police, Officer Purtee and Officer Brown led the presentation, during which the participants were shown different tasks K9 teams perform and given insight into the extensive hours of training they complete.
As part of the CPA's efforts to educate citizens on various elements of policing, the inclusion of K9 units showcased a unique aspect of law enforcement. The K9 named Zudo was highlighted as a prime example of the department's commitment to the program. The participants had the opportunity to see firsthand the results of rigorous training and were provided details on the roles these dogs play in maintaining public safety.
The Citizen Police Academy is designed to give residents a better understanding of police work and to foster stronger relationships between the police force and the community they serves. This program, free of charge for participants, includes a series of classes that cover an array of topics, including but not limited to crime scene investigation, narcotics, and now K9 deployments. The NPD's initiative aims to promote transparency, accountability, and mutual respect between the city's police officers and its citizens.
