Early Wednesday, Houston firefighters responded to a fire at a lumber yard on Jensen Drive, where flames spread through stacked lumber and briefly cut power to nearby businesses. Crews worked through the night to control the blaze, and officials reported no injuries while the fire’s cause remains under investigation, as reported by KHOU.
The fire involved lumber stored outdoors and a small nearby structure, with multiple firefighting units assigned to the scene. Power lines were damaged during the blaze, but CenterPoint Energy crews had restored service by 6:30 a.m.
Investigation ongoing
The Houston Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, officials said. No injuries were reported, and OnScene TV video showed tall flames from stacks of lumber as crews worked to prevent the fire from reigniting while clearing the scene, according to Houston Chronicle.
Context: past fires on Jensen Drive
This stretch of Jensen Drive has seen large commercial fires before; in 2022 a blaze at Martin's Hardware and Lumber in the 6200 block caused heavy damage and prompted a major HFD response, as per ABC13. Officials and business owners often point to outdoor lumber storage and nearby combustible materials as factors that can escalate these incidents.
What neighbors should know
Officials asked residents and drivers to avoid the area while emergency crews and utility workers finish their work. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Houston Fire Department investigators.
