North Las Vegas welcomed a new face to its judiciary system as Christopher Cannon was officially sworn in as the Municipal Judge in Department 1 of the North Las Vegas Municipal Court. The ceremony took place at the City Council Meeting on November 19, according to a city press release. Cannon steps into the role following the retirement of Judge Chris Lee on October 10.
The Mayor and City Council had previously appointed Cannon at the November 5 council meeting, for a term that extends until November 30, 2026. Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown expressed confidence in Cannon's capabilities, citing his "tremendous knowledge and expertise," gained through his background in criminal defense, as well as family and employment law. His 25-year tenure with the North Las Vegas Police Department was also highlighted as a testament to his commitment to public service.
Cannon, who earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola Marymount University, brings extensive legal experience to the bench. He has served as General Counsel for the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers and as a Partner/Attorney at the Law Offices of Christopher Cannon.
During the appointment, Mayor Goynes-Brown praised Judge Cannon’s background, noting it provides him with insight into the reasons people turn to crime and will help him preside over the court with fairness and balance. The city expects Judge Cannon to apply a balanced and equitable approach to his judicial duties.
