A Northville man, 22-year-old Charles Laurence Willis, has pleaded guilty to engaging in unlawful sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl, as reported by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. Willis claimed he was 16 to convince the girl and her mother of his alleged innocence; however, investigations revealed that he was indeed 21 at the time the incidents took place in 2023, according to CBS News.
Two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct have been acknowledged by Willis, and now he faces a potential 15-year sentence, additionally, his plea agreement includes lifetime registration as a Tier III sex offender, as mentioned in a detailed post on the official Facebook page of the Macomb County Prosecutor. The court has also mandated that Willis undergo HIV testing and has barred him from having contact with the minor whom he victimized.
Willis' legal troubles are compounded as he faces additional charges in Wayne County, where prosecutors accused him of kidnapping and sexually abusing another 14-year-old girl after luring her on social media to travel a significant distance from her home; these allegations have also led to his trial date being set for March 30, as per CBS News Detroit.
"Protecting young people from exploitation and ensuring adults are held responsible for their choices is essential to the safety and integrity of our community," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido stated, affirming the community's stance on seeking justice and upholding law, and echoing these sentiments, the Prosecutor's office reaffirmed their commitment to the safety of the vulnerable and the rule of law through an official statement relayed via CBS News Detroit. The sentencing for Charles Laurence Willis is scheduled to take place on January 22, 2026, and with his guilty plea.
