It's a moment of recognition for fiscal responsibility in Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber has announced the recipients of the Auditor of State Award for October, shining a spotlight on entities across multiple counties that have demonstrated excellence in managing their financial audits. The list includes municipalities, county entities, and educational institutions that, by keeping pristine financial records, illustrate a commitment to public service transparency and accountability. Among the honored are the City of Urbana, the City of Mayfield Heights, and the Capital City Career Prep High School.
Boasting clean audits, these government bodies successfully maneuvered through the complex web of financial reporting without a hitch. According to a statement from the Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber's Office, to achieve such an award, entities had to meet criteria that include filing timely financial reports without needing extensions and the absence of findings for recovery or other financial missteps in the reports. Entities like Butler County Finance Authority, whose financial prudence earned them a spot on the list, succeeded in having no comments related to ethics referrals or bank reconciliation issues in their management letter.
"By keeping accurate financial records, governing bodies demonstrate their commitment to efficient, effective, and transparent service," Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber said. Furthermore, to be deemed eligible for the award, entities must not have other financial or operational concerns, such as public meetings or public records issues. This achievement, as Faber indicates, is an honor that acknowledges the hard work put into financial order.
Notably, this Auditor of State's Office recognition comes as a mark of prestige, singling out bodies like the Clermont County Transportation Improvement District and the Wolf Creek Local School District. Their audit reports, which contained no Uniform Guidance findings or questioned costs, reflect their adherence to GAAP principles. They also highlight a dedication to both fiscal integrity and a standard of excellence that goes beyond basic compliance, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are well stewarded.
For residents of these jurisdictions, the award is an assurance that their local government officials and school districts are managing funds with a level of care and precision that deserves public confidence. The clean bill of financial health, with no findings for recovery less than $500 or material citations, denotes much more than a mere pat on the back—it's a testament to civic responsibility and a noteworthy example for others to follow.
