In recognition of those who served, Ohio is setting its sights on giving back to its veterans with a day of complimentary shooting range access. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is marking Veterans Day by inviting vets to shoot for free at state-managed public ranges on Nov. 15. The usual permit fee, according to an ODNR announcement, will not be a barrier for veterans looking to use the Class A, B, and C shooting range facilities on this day.
Offering an array of options, Class A ranges present supervised options for rifle and pistol target shooting; Class B settings provide unsupervised use for the same, and Class C settings are for those to immediately begin sharpening their clay target shotgun skills.
While permits are typically a must for those 18 and older shooting on Division of Wildlife lands, the Nov. 15 waiver exclusively extends to those who have worn the uniform. Regularly, daily permits come at a cost of $5, an annual one at $24, and can be conveniently purchased through hunting and fishing license outlets, the Ohio Wildlife Licensing System, or the HuntFish OH mobile app, as per standard procedure for non-veterans.
The ODNR Division of Wildlife operates these as part of their commitment towards maintaining comfortable, safe venues where Ohioans can refine their marksmanship. Full details on range locations and the amenities they offer are accessible on the Ohio Wildlife's official site.
