Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose unveiled a new tool aimed at enhancing public access to business data in the Buckeye State. The freshly launched dashboard presents a range of insights into the state’s new business filings, offering users a deeper glimpse into demographics, growth over the years, and specific stats on the county level, along with notary and ministerial license figures.
The move is part of a broader initiative by LaRose to push transparency to the forefront of Ohio’s governmental operations. "The public deserves transparency in every aspect of state and local government,” Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose stated in a release. As noted in the official announcement, the success derived from similar transparency tools for elections prompted the extension of this open-data approach to the business sphere. The reaction, at least from Ohioans, has been one of strong approval, according to the Secretary's office.
LaRose's tenure has been marked by a steady introduction of online resources aimed at making governmental data more accessible and voter information more comprehensible. Among them is the Voter Registration Dashboard, enabling analysis of voter registration trends, and the Absentee and Early Voting Dashboard for scrutinizing early voting patterns. The Daily Voter Registration Snapshots offer up-to-date changes in voter registrations across Ohio’s many counties, providing a sort of live feed to anyone interested in the state's electoral heartbeat.
Additionally, the Ohio Secretary of State's office has enhanced its Data Integrity Program, simplifying the process for county boards of elections to identify and rectify data inaccuracies. LaRose mentions that with these new tools, counties have been resolving flagged issues significantly faster than before, boasting a 50 times quicker remediation rate. "During the first 60 days of using the expanded data integrity dashboard, six pilot county boards resolved nearly 97 percent of the issues we flagged," LaRose highlighted in a statement obtained by the Ohio Secretary of State's Office.
In line with these efforts, the public can also access an Election Results Dashboard, which serves to dissect past election outcomes and track voting trends across the state. Each development signified by these dashboards symbolizes a step towards increased accountability and efficiency within Ohio's state systems, keeping citizens both informed and engaged with the inner mechanics of their government.
