This past Saturday, Ohio Stadium had its reality flipped when The Ohio State University Marching Band presented a halftime show straight out of a parallel universe—or should we say, "Upside Down." The TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In The Land), as they’re affectionately known, took the 'Shoe crowd on a nostalgic trip with a performance inspired by the Netflix sensation "Stranger Things."
Attendees of the Penn State game experienced a blast from the '80s past as the band marched to the tunes of "Separate Ways," "Running Up That Hill," and "Master of Puppets." Dotted with formations that echoed the series' eerie iconography, such as the "Stranger Things" title sequence and the silhouette of a bicycle racing across the field, the TBDBITL had fans cheering and, perhaps, feeling a chill akin to an autumn breeze in Hawkins, Indiana. According to a report from Ohio State University news release, the stadium was turned "upside down" with this homage to the hit show.
The star of the halftime spectacle wasn't just the music or the visual feast provided by the meticulously executed formations—it was also Kelly Scott. A proud primary education degree holder from Worthington, Ohio, Scott had the honor of dotting the "i" in the traditional Script Ohio, marking a peak moment in the fusion of school spirit and pop culture.
