Orlando residents and visitors are gearing up for a shift in the weather as a cold front arrives, bringing northerly winds and cooler temperatures. The National Weather Service Melbourne FL, early Monday reported that we should expect dry and gradually warmer conditions as the week progresses, but not before enduring some poor to hazardous beach and boating conditions due to the increased wind activity.

Ahead of the front, temperatures were stretching from the low 60s to around 70 degrees, with below-normal temperatures anticipated throughout the day. Those looking to enjoy the beach, however, should beware of the enhanced risk of rip currents and the longshore current that are expected to develop on area beaches.

As the week continues, the conditions are predicted to remain dry with low rain chances returning late week into the weekend. For the boating community, northerly winds are said to increase today behind the cold front, which will escalate to 15-20 kt winds and gusts up to approximately 25 kt across the waters. The seas react by building to 4-6 ft nearshore and even hitting 5-7 ft offshore, prompting a Small Craft Advisory to begin in parts of the region by late morning.

Moving into midweek, Orlando and its environs can anticipate surface high pressure and mid-level ridging, which should keep conditions dry. However, by Tuesday, a high risk of rip currents develops, and thus, entering the water will be strongly discouraged. The forecast anticipates a return to normal daytime temperatures in the low 80s, with overnight lows in the upper 50s to upper 60s. As we look ahead into the weekend, slightly above normal temperatures are forecast with highs potentially reaching the mid-80s.
