A Cecil County man was taken into custody by the Maryland State Police after a traffic stop led to the discovery of his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking operation. The accused, identified as 48-year-old Dwight L. Alexander from Perryville, Maryland, is now facing several charges, including the possession of a firearm and drug trafficking.

In a detailed press release by the Maryland State Police, it was stated that Alexander was arrested at 8:30 am on Monday without bail at the Cecil County Detention Center. Following an extended investigation over the summer by the State Police Strategic Operations Group-North into controlled dangerous substances circulating in Cecil County, Alexander was earmarked as a significant source.

The turning point came on October 8, when state troopers stopped Alexander at a convenience store along W. Pulaski Highway in Elkton. With a search warrant in hand and suspected cocaine in plain sight within Alexander's vehicle's center console cup holder, he was detained. His residence on Broad Street in Perryville was also searched in coordination with the Cecil County Drug Task Force.

From Alexander’s residence, authorities seized over one kilogram of suspected cocaine, a loaded 9mm pistol with rounds of ammunition, alongside drug packaging materials and a digital scale. His black Acura MDX additionally contained 126.4 grams of cocaine and packaging materials. According to the press release, the cocaine bore the “Lexus” vehicle brand logo, indicating its bulk status. This ongoing case is part of a broader initiative backed by the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network and strategically supported by the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy.
