Philadelphia’s public workforce is gearing up for Integrity Week, running from November 17 to 21. The city will host a series of events designed to strengthen ethical standards and promote a culture of integrity among employees, board and commission members, and Integrity Officers. Staff are encouraged to participate, learn, and deepen their understanding of professional ethics as part of this citywide initiative.
The week will begin on Monday with a relaxed “Integrity & Friends Tabling” event, where staff can meet representatives from the Office of the Inspector General and the Board of Ethics, and pick up some treats along the way. On Tuesday, attention turns to celebrating the vital role of departmental Integrity Officers and highlighting their contributions to maintaining ethical standards across city government. In a statement obtained by The City of Philadelphia, the event includes a panel with former Chief Integrity Officers discussing the role's evolution and a ceremony to honor current Integrity Officers.
Midweek events continue with a "Crafting with Compliance" session on Wednesday. It's a combo of arts and crafts, and compliance wisdom, as unusual as that pairing might sound. Still on Wednesday, for those interested in governance, there's the Board of Ethics Monthly Board Meeting - available in-person and online.
On Thursday, the spotlight shifts to technology with the “AI at Work Coffeehouse Panel,” where city employees will be introduced to the basics of artificial intelligence, including platforms like ChatGPT, Cobol, and Grok — and explore how to use these tools responsibly while upholding ethical standards. Later in the day, staff can get guidance on proper seasonal etiquette during the “Holiday Gifts Training,” a timely session focused on navigating gift-giving rules ahead of the festive season. As stated by The City of Philadelphia, before sending a gift or accepting a holiday party invitation, employees are encouraged to attend the session for guidance on proper holiday conduct and to avoid potential ethics issues.
The week will conclude on Friday with “Case in Point with Integrity and OIG,” an interactive session featuring real-world ethical scenarios and discussion. City staff interested in participating can contact [email protected] or refer to the employee newsletter for registration information.
