Philadelphia residents will receive only half of their expected SNAP benefits for November, confirmed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services following a federal funding shortfall. In response, the City of Philadelphia launched the One Philly SNAP Support Program on Monday to help local organizations provide food assistance to affected residents.
Pennsylvania Department of Human Services also warned of scam attempts targeting SNAP beneficiaries, with fraudsters seeking personal details and PIN numbers. The department reminded recipients that it "will never contact you by phone and to provide your PIN or personal information," according to the City of Philadelphia.
The Food and Nutrition Service announced on October 16 that delays in federal allocations are affecting SNAP funding, with no confirmed date for full payments to resume. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services said current beneficiaries can use their funds until the end of the year and should keep their contact information updated for future notices. The City of Philadelphia also provides a Food and Meal Finder tool to help residents locate food assistance programs across the city.
