Last week, the Placer Law Enforcement Agencies celebrated their annual Honors and Awards Ceremony, honoring members across their ranks for exceptional bravery and quick action in life-threatening situations. In a statement released on social media, the Placer County Sheriff's Office detailed the achievements of their deputies who were awarded Lifesaving Awards for their actions in the field. Among the honored were Deputies Harrison Eide and Natalie Parkes, who were recognized for their efforts to save an unconscious man in the snowy backdrop of North Lake Tahoe.

According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office Facebook post, Eide and Parkes braved half a mile of knee-deep snow on December 19, 2024, locating an injured man who had stopped responding to his wife. Their unabated efforts to keep him alert and provide critical care lasted for seventeen minutes before fire personnel could take over. Also lauded for their decisive actions to save a life were Deputies Camalo and A. Graham, who swiftly responded to a man who had attempted suicide outside South Placer Jail by applying tourniquets and securing a nearby pocketknife, preventing further harm.

Additional recipients of the Lifesaving Award included Deputies Eide and Sgt. Stoll for their swift response to a man who collapsed outside of MOD Pizza in Auburn. As per the Sheriff's Office announcement, their immediate commencement of CPR proved vital, ultimately helping the man regain a pulse. Deputy Matt Light was also recognized for successfully reviving an individual suffering from a fentanyl overdose on Grass Valley Highway in Auburn through the administration of CPR and Narcan.

These recognitions are emblematic of the critical moments law enforcement officers often encounter. It's clear from the accounts provided by the Placer County Sheriff's Office that the quick actions taken by these deputies significantly altered the outcome of life-threatening scenarios. The PLEA Awards aim to visibly honor just a fraction of the many instances where officers have to readily respond in order to protect and serve the community.
