A Portsmouth man is in custody following a drug bust spearheaded by the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force. In a coordinated effort that saw the inclusion of Portsmouth Police Department SWAT, sixty-two-year-old John Wallington was arrested from his home at 1822 Dexter Ave, Portsmouth, Ohio.
On Monday, November 3, at approximately 3:34 p.m., law enforcement officials executed a search warrant that was explicitly narcotics-related. Following the raid, a sizable quantity of illegal substances, firearms, and paraphernalia were seized from Wallington's residence. Among the confiscated items were approximately 81.73 grams of substances suspected to be fentanyl/opiates, 9.39 grams of what is believed to be crack cocaine, five loaded firearms, digital scales, and baggies. Officers also found $3,801 in cash, the accumulation presumably a byproduct of drug trafficking activities. The estimated street value of the drugs hovers around the $10,963 mark, according to the Scioto County Sheriff's Office official press release.
Following the arrest, John Wallington was charged with Trafficking and Possession of Drugs, with both charges being felonies of the 1st degree. He was subsequently placed in the Scioto County Jail, with arrangements to be arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court the following day at 9:00 a.m. The implications of the charges are severe, highlighting the gravity of involvement in such illegal dealings.
Any subsequent actions in this case are set to eventually be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor's Office for consideration of additional charges by a Scioto County Grand Jury. The success of this operation did not come in isolation. "Chief Brewer and Sheriff Thoroughman would like to thank the Southern Ohio Organized and Major Crimes Task Force for their assistance with the warrant execution," attributing shared success to the collective effort in combating the area's drug issues. The statement goes a step further, encouraging community involvement, according to the Scioto County Sheriff's Office. "Chief Brewer and Sheriff Thoroughman request anyone wishing to leave drug information for the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, should phone the Task Force tip line at (740) 354-5656."
