Dearborn, Michigan, saw clashing protests on Tuesday as anti-Islam demonstrators confronted local Muslim activists. Residents voiced their concerns, with one stating, "How are they coming to us and saying we're all about division and all about Sharia Law? They're coming here and giving us nothing but hatred," according to CBS News Detroit.
The protest drew attention when Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hudson joined, with chants of "Fix Michigan," heard amid the crowd. Other controversial figures, including Jake Lang, also participated, and the events sparked widespread discussion on social media platform X, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
In Dearborn, anti-Islam demonstrator Lang tried to burn a Quran and taunt Muslim counter-protesters with bacon but was stopped by the crowd. Police were present to prevent violence, and at least one person was taken into custody near City Hall. Karrar Haidar said, "To show the American people that we are a religion of peace and we can coexist as the Abrahamic religions have coexisted in previous times." Curtis Hertel, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, said, "Attempting to burn a religious document is an unacceptable act of hate," and added, "Dearborn is a beloved, multicultural city with tens of thousands of people who are cherished friends, family members, and neighbors," as per MLive.
