As Raleigh residents gear up for holiday festivities, their safety on the roads is being ramped up by local law enforcement. A recent DWI saturation patrol by the Raleigh Police Department, in collaboration with several Wake County agencies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, has led to a significant number of arrests and charges. The operation which took place over the last weekend along the New Bern Avenue corridor, was a calculated move to reduce impaired driving incidents as the holidays approach.
The focused initiative yielded 20 DWI arrests, and officers stopped 106 vehicles. The extensive operation resulted in 142 charges being filed, 12 warrants served, two vehicles, and one firearm seized. "With the holiday season quickly approaching, the Raleigh Police Department remains committed to ensuring that everyone in our community can enjoy this time safely," as detailed by the City of Raleigh's press release. The Raleigh Police Department emphasized the importance of these targeted enforcement initiatives, which they believe are essential for maintaining the safety of the roads and neighborhoods.
These efforts are in line with Chief Boyce's strategic priorities, specifically focusing on operational efficiency and crime reduction strategies. The Department aims to provide a secure environment for citizens to celebrate the upcoming holidays, and acknowledge that operations like the DWI patrol are central to crime prevention and public safety during times of increased road traffic
While the New Bern Avenue corridor was this operation's focus, the Raleigh Police Department is looking to extend these measures throughout the city. In preparation for the increased holiday activity, they continue to urge drivers to act responsibly, and to consider the well-being of themselves and their fellow community members on the road.
