The City of Reno is calling on its community to join them in celebrating the newly reconstructed Mira Loma Sports Courts this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mira Loma Park. Highlighting the event, there will be remarks by Ward 3 Councilmember Miguel Martinez and complimentary treats available for attendees. The courts, which include tennis and basketball facilities, have undergone a substantial renovation, ensuring they continue to be a mainstay for local recreation.
Originally constructed in 1982, the extensively used park required updates due to damage like cracks and uneven surfaces. With an investment of $788,888 from the Fiscal Year 2024–2025 Capital Improvement Plan and funded through Residential Construction Tax District 4, these renovations were made possible and awarded to West Coast Paving, Inc. by the Reno City Council back in April 2025, as mentioned in a city announcement.
The Mira Loma Sports Courts project includes several enhancements, such as the resurfacing of four tennis courts, which were also restriped to accommodate pickleball, the local favorite. Accessibility improvements were also a focus, with the installation of ADA-compliant concrete walkways. New tennis, pickleball, and basketball equipment was added, alongside updated surfacing and fencing, ensuring a superior playing experience and inclusivity for all park-goers.
Spoken by Ward 3 Councilmember Miguel Martinez, "This project is a great example of how investing in our parks strengthens our neighborhoods," highlighting the city's drive to promote outdoor activities and reinforce community bonds, as reported by the city's official website. The Mira Loma sports courts now boast a newly converted full basketball court and added shade structures to keep players cool during the game, enhancing the park's appeal as a hub for socialization and sports.
Reno's residents are encouraged to witness the park's transformation and partake in the festivities during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. For more information about the city's parks and the scheduled event, people are advised to visit the Reno City’s Parks and Recreation page.
