A Roseville babysitter has received a life sentence without the possibility of parole following her conviction for the murder of a 22-month-old child she was watching. As reported by CBS News Detroit, 24-year-old Kimora Launmei Hodges was also sentenced yesterday to serve an additional 15 to 40 years for first-degree child abuse.
Hodges, who had been babysitting the victim, a boy named Kyrie, "physically harmed" him on June 13, 2022, causing severe injuries that led to his death at an area hospital. The macabre details of the event include subdural hemorrhage and bilateral retinal hemorrhages, as noted by Macomb County prosecutors, per ClickOnDetroit. The boy's mother, aged 18, on a GoFundMe page shared that she had believed her neighbor when she left her son in Hodges's care while she was at work, trusting Hodges. She later found her son in dire need of brain surgery.
In court proceedings that concluded with a six-day trial, Hodges was convicted on July 31, 2025. The sentencing reflects the nature of the crime, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido declared, emphasizing punishment and the duty to protect vulnerable lives in a statement provided to Audacy. "The sentence handed down today reflects the severity of the crime committed. The defendant's actions resulted in the tragic death of an innocent child, and the court has imposed a life sentence without the possibility of parole to hold her fully accountable. Our thoughts remain with the victim's family, whose lives have been forever changed by this senseless act," Lucido said.
