The Sacramento Kings faced yet another disappointing night, this time against the Phoenix Suns, who cruised to a 112-100 victory, leaving the Kings to process a series of blunders. From the get-go, Sacramento was playing catch-up, trailing by a stark 41-16 at the end of the first quarter – a deficit they'd struggle with for the rest of the game. As Sports Illustrated reported, turnovers were a critical issue, with the Kings giving up a whopping 34 points from their own missteps.
Phoenix, on the other hand, showcased a well-rounded performance, with big man Mark Williams and guard Collin Gillespie igniting the Suns' fire. Williams not only posted 21 points and 16 rebounds but also shot an impressive 9 of 12 from the field, as detailed by ESPN. Gillespie matched Williams in points and added nine assists to his stat line, ensuring the Suns' commanding presence on the court remained constant throughout the game.
The Kings narrowed a 22-point halftime deficit to ten before the fourth quarter, but the Suns responded with a seven-point run. Russell Westbrook and Keegan Murray each scored 19 points, but the early deficit was too large to overcome.
The Kings’ lack of size contributed to Mark Williams’ dominance in the paint. Zach LaVine scored 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting, continuing his season-long shooting slump, Sports Illustrated reported.
The Suns will next face the Oklahoma City Thunder, while the Kings play the Utah Jazz. Sacramento is currently 0-3 in the NBA Cup standings.
