Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has announced that $1.6 million has been raised for the Feeding San Antonio Fund to address food insecurity following the suspension of SNAP benefits. According to the Office of the Mayor press release, the fund will help seniors and families affected by the loss of federal aid.

More than 100,000 households in San Antonio have lost SNAP benefits due to funding cuts. The City will distribute H-E-B gift cards to low-income seniors and families with young children impacted by the shutdown.

USAA is the title sponsor of the initiative, joined by contributors including Frost Bank, the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, and The Latino Foundation of the San Antonio Area Foundation. Other donors include IBC Bank, Joeris General Contractors, and Spurs Sports and Entertainment.

The San Antonio Area Foundation will manage the funds, while the City’s Human Services and Metro Health Departments will oversee distribution. Additional support has come from Valero, the Kym Rampier Foundation, and the Office of Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones.
