A San Antonio police officer finds himself on the other side of the law following his arrest for alleged injuries to a child, as reported by Fox San Antonio and KSAT. Jacob Ryan, a member of the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) for five years, faces three felony counts in relation to incidents that are said to have occurred off duty in 2024.
Ryan, 32, surrendered to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office after a warrant for his arrest was issued. This arrest makes him the eighth officer from the SAPD to be apprehended in 2025, and the second in the month of November alone, according to a KSAT Investigates analysis.
Records outline the charges stemming from three separate dates, with the first alleged incident occurring on Feb. 13, 2024. Ryan is accused of hitting a juvenile with his hand and "by manner and means unknown." During the second encounter on March 21, Ryan again allegedly struck the minor with his hand and an unidentified object, and on June 10, he lifted the child's arm and hit them with the other hand, court documents reveal, according to KSAT. The juvenile’s identity has been withheld due to their minor status.
Ryan was released from custody just before 4:30 p.m. following his arrest. The SAPD has reassigned him to administrative duties, the department told Fox San Antonio, as it addresses officer-related incidents.
The SAPD remains tight-lipped about the specifics of the incidents and Ryan's future with the force. The administrative inquiries are still in progress, which will likely determine the extent of the internal ramifications following his legal proceedings.
