Sanford has taken a breath of fresh air as the city rolls out an essential update to its North Water Reclamation Facility. According to FOX 35 Orlando, new equipment designed for improved odor control has been installed, replacing a provisional system and signaling relief from the persistent unpleasant smells that have been troubling the community.
City Manager Norton Bonaparte acknowledged the issue, as per WFTV, stating, "Over the past several weeks, we know that many residents have experienced frustration related to odors from the facility." Concurrently, the city has taken several steps, including temporary measures, to mitigate the odor and maintain proactive communication with residents through social media and their website updates.
Public Works and Utilities Director Brynt Johnson highlighted the significance of the new equipment by telling WFTV, "This equipment is essential to the facility’s odor control system." Transparency efforts include the release of a behind-the-scenes video showing the exhaustive process involved in resolving the odor issues.
Citizens had been contending with the odor while the city also grappled with infrastructure challenges, like replacing around 4,000 feet of wastewater pipeline after a major line failure. Amidst these developments, the City of Sanford reassured residents of their commitment to comfort and community trust by undertaking interim odor-reduction measures and frequent updates to keep the public informed, the city said.
