The Santa Monica Police Department recently reported an arrest related to a suspect allegedly involved in narcotics activity and possession of stolen goods. According to a Facebook post by SMPD, officers from the Directed Action Response Team apprehended the individual on November 4 in the 400 block of Colorado Avenue.
During the intervention, officials are said to have discovered multiple coils of stolen copper wire. They also found an array of tools commonly used for burglaries, including bolt cutters, screwdrivers, wrenches, and a pry bar. It appears that the suspect was allegedly engaging in narcotics activity in public, which prompted police to initially engage with them. The arrest was made on grounds of possessing stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and narcotics-related offenses.
"Our teams continue working proactively across the city to deter theft, support local businesses, and maintain a safe environment for residents and visitors," the Santa Monica Police Department declared on their social media. The post emphasized the department's ongoing efforts to systematically safeguard the community from theft and other criminal activities that threaten local businesses and the general public's safety.
The incident is part of a broader strategy by the SMPD to address theft, particularly involving valuable materials like copper, which can be a significant target for thieves due to its high market value. No additional details regarding the suspect's identity or the specifics of the narcotics activity were immediately released by the authorities.
