The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is on the hunt for Alejandro A. Tobarfuentes, a 33-year-old individual who was reported missing from the Francisquito Conservation Camp in Los Angeles County. The camp, which serves as a minimum-security facility, realized Tobarfuentes' absence at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Nov. 9. KTLA reports that staff members quickly initiated an emergency count to confirm that Tobarfuentes was not present.
In response to the escape, the CDCR dispatched agents from its Office of Correctional Safety to locate and return Tobarfuentes. Local law enforcement was also notified of the incident. Tobarfuentes, who has brown eyes and black hair, was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 164 pounds. At the time of his disappearance, he wore gray sweatpants, a gray sweatshirt, and an orange beanie. According to the CDCR's official news release, he was serving a sentence for first-degree burglary and displaying a forged driver’s license or ID, having been received from Orange County on May 14, 2025.
The public has been urged to report any sightings or information on Tobarfuentes’ whereabouts to law enforcement authorities. Individuals can call 911 or reach out directly to Special Agent S. Rojas at 909-727-1947 with any potential leads.
The recent escape underscores the ongoing challenges facing conservation camps, which integrate incarcerated individuals into firefighter training and support for natural disaster responses. As per CDCR’s statistics, 99 percent of persons who have left these facilities since 1977 have been apprehended, a fact highlighted in the recent statement issued by the department.
