In a collaborative effort to staunch the flow of illegal firearms within Ventura County, detectives from the Sheriff's Gun Violence Reduction Program, along with federal and local agents, have arrested Simi Valley resident Luke Bancroft. Bancroft, 45, was reportedly found with a cache of unlawful weapons and a controlled substance, according to a media release obtained by Nixle.
The investigation, which began in the fall of 2024, culminated in a traffic stop conducted on November 4 where Bancroft was found with two loaded pistols that were not registered in California. The follow-up search of his residence unveiled more than 125 firearms, including 14 that qualified as assault weapons in the state, and over 100,000 rounds of ammunition. Bancroft had seemingly tried to circumvent California's rigid firearm laws by purchasing firearms and ammunition out of state.
"Detectives gathered evidence in their investigation, leading them to obtain a search warrant for Bancroft, his vehicles, and his residence located in the 1800 block of Wallace Street in Simi Valley," said the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in the release. After posting bail, Bancroft was released from the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. The Ventura County District Attorney's Office has chosen to press multiple charges including possession of assault weapons and a controlled substance.
Although the arrest has effectively removed a significant number of illegal firearms from potential circulation, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office has stated that as of now, there is "currently no evidence of a broader threat to public safety." The comprehensive operation was part of an ongoing endeavor to reduce gun violence and involved various levels of law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the California Department of Justice.
The consequences for Bancroft remain to unfold, yet this incident underscores the continual challenge law enforcement faces in combating the proliferation of illegal firearms. Sergeant Adam Garnier prepared this report, and Detective Weston Price has been designated as the media contact for further inquiries. The multi-agency initiative aims to target unlawful possession and manufacturing of firearms with the hopes of bolstering public safety and thwarting gun-related crimes.
