The City of Sterling Heights is celebrating the end of a particularly effective road construction season, marked by strategic upgrades and improvements to its transportation network. In an announcement issued on November 19th, officials detailed the completion of seven major road projects and enhancements to several local roadways, made possible by the Safe Streets millage renewed by voters in 2019. The millage has been a crucial investment, pumping funds into the sustained overhaul of infrastructure to ensure public safety and efficient travel.

Over the course of this year, Sterling Heights has met the challenge of revitalizing its roads head-on, with an extensive series of construction undertakings. Among the projects completed are significant renovations to the 17 Mile Road, the 18 Mile Road/Bridge, 14 Mile Road, and the Hayes Road Bridge. This also included the resurfacing of Dobry Drive and the installation of three new pedestrian bridges, according to the City of Sterling Heights.

In addition, the city's commitment to mobility extends beyond the roadways. As part of its comprehensive infrastructure strategy, Sterling Heights replaced a substantial 315,300 square feet of sidewalks this year—an effort to ensure safer pedestrian paths that resonate with the city’s ethos of community safety. "Keeping our community safe is a guiding principle in Sterling Heights, and it’s not just about drivers," City Engineer Brent Bashaw told the City of Sterling Heights website, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the city’s infrastructure approach.

Backed by a $26 million investment, the sweeping improvements have been particularly focused on the driving experience, safety, and enhanced mobility throughout the city. Mayor Michael Taylor expressed his gratitude to the citizens for their support of the Safe Streets millage, which has been instrumental in these developments.
