Amid a somber courtroom atmosphere, Tyler Matthew Johns, the 22-year-old man accused of fatally shooting an 11-year-old boy during what police described as a road rage incident, was ordered to remain held without bail. As detailed in a News 3 Las Vegas report, Johns appeared for an arraignment hearing on Tuesday, where a judge found enough evidence to keep him detained.
According to FOX5 Las Vegas, Kari Skinner, a Henderson Police Department detective, testified to having a separate incident where drivers reported the suspect driving aggressively on the 215 Beltway. During the tragic incident, which resulted in the death of young Brandon Dominguez-Chavarria, it is alleged that after an exchange of heated words, Johns discharged a firearm into the vehicle where the child was a passenger. John's attorney counterargued, insisting that the victim's father was the one exhibiting aggression beforehand.
Ryan Helmick, the defense attorney, firmly places a mantle of innocence over Johns, stating, "My client is innocent, and we are going to prove that in court." Despite this defense, Rubi Chavarria, the heartbroken mother of Brandon, believes that the accused does not deserve the privilege of freedom. In an emotional plea conveyed by News 3 Las Vegas, she told reporters, "Nobody should be going through what I am going through."
Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, Rubi Chavarria, the victim’s mother, expressed her grief and urged for justice in her son’s case. “Road rage doesn’t give you the right to scare the person… My son’s life was taken away. He was just trying to make it to school,” she said, as reported by FOX5 Las Vegas. Chavarria also voiced concerns about the suspect’s release, stating he should not be free while the case is pending. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4, where additional details are expected to emerge.
