Tampa residents and visitors should take note that this weekend, the city streets will witness a transformation as runners lace up for the annual Miles for Moffitt event. According to City of Tampa official government website, on Saturday, November 22, road closures will weave through the heart of downtown to make way for the race participants. An early start is planned, with the first races kicking off at 6:30 AM, meaning closures will be in place as early as 4:00 AM and are expected to remain until noon.
About 10,000 participants are predicted to join the fray, causing significant disruptions across some of the city's busiest arteries. The Brorein Bridge, for one, will shut down promptly at 4:00 AM and is not set to reopen until 10:30 AM. Channelside will follow suit, closing its pathways to traffic from 4:00 AM until the stroke of noon. As for the scenic Bayshore Boulevard, which doubles as the race's backbone extending to Euclid Avenue and back, it will be shuttered to vehicles from 5:00 AM until 10:00 AM, spilling runners instead of the usual tide of cars.
Racers will start their journey on Brorein Street and push toward the finish line at Thunder Alley at Benchmark International Arena. All who will be in the vicinity are recommended to practice extra caution, with the event poised to not only fill the streets with foot traffic but also bring forth a heightened sense of community spirit.
City of Tampa government urges drivers to "exercise extra caution near event areas and remain alert for increased pedestrian activity."
