In a significant crackdown on child exploitation, the Taylor Police Department announced the arrest of 14 individuals throughout 2025 as part of undercover operations targeting online predators. The department, in collaboration with several federal agencies, has been utilizing advanced technology to identify and apprehend suspects attempting to engage in illegal activities with minors through online communication platforms, the City of Taylor reports.

Among the arrested, three men have so far entered guilty pleas for felony offenses related to these investigations. These are Jacob Gozalka, a 30-year-old from Southgate; Richard Jon Wandt, a 35-year-old from Monroe; and Wvalter Orozco, a 39-year-old from Detroit. According to ClickOnDetroit, Gozalka pled guilty to attempted child sexually abusive commercial activity, Wandt to accosting a child for immoral purposes, and Orozco to using a computer to commit a crime.

Several other suspects are currently facing pending court proceedings on various felony charges. Taylor police have charged individuals such as Johnathan Lee McKissack of Romulus and Carlos Javier Gardea Vega of Lincoln Park with felonies, including attempted child sexually abusive activity and accosting a child for immoral purposes, FOX 2 Detroit reported.

Police Chief John Blair commended the role of technology in modern policing, citing its critical role in child protection. "By combining cutting-edge tools like drones and license plate recognition with skilled investigative work and strong partnerships with our federal and regional task force partners, we are able to act quickly and effectively to bring these offenders to justice," Blair said in a statement obtained by the City of Taylor. Assisting the Taylor police in this large operation were the Department of Homeland Security, the United States Secret Service, Metro Narcotics Enforcement Team, and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
