San Antonio’s River Walk was the scene of an incident earlier this month in which a teenager allegedly used pepper spray on a group of people, including a three-year-old child. The suspect, 17-year-old Kasidy Luz Trevino, has been taken into custody and faces multiple charges. According to KSAT, Trevino turned herself in following the incident.
On November 15, Trevino was reportedly involved in a verbal altercation during a guided riverboat tour. After being asked to lower the volume on her phone and eventually to leave the barge, she allegedly retaliated by using pepper spray on the occupants from a footbridge above. A TikTok video capturing the incident went viral and helped identify Trevino, who now faces one count of assault causing bodily injury and two counts of injury to a child, elderly, or disabled person with intent, as per Fox San Antonio.
Following the arrest, both local residents and tourists expressed concern about the incident and relief that the alleged attacker is in custody. “That’s wild to see a child the same age as my kids,” said Hailey Chack, a visitor from Dallas, to KSAT. Others noted that defensive measures should be used only in actual danger, criticizing the response that resulted in multiple people experiencing pain and respiratory issues.
Despite the incident, the overall atmosphere on the San Antonio River Walk remains unchanged, with locals and tourists reporting that they still feel safe in the area. “It’s always been nice and beautiful here. It was really just that one incident,” Angel said to KSAT. Some hope the event will serve as a learning experience. “We all make mistakes, and in the future, I think it will be a learning experience for her,” commented Paul, another local resident.
