Thanksgiving dinner did not end the way anyone expected at a northwest Houston staple, after a late-night fire tore through Don Jose on Antoine Drive and triggered an arson investigation that now has a local woman sitting in jail.
Investigators say the Thursday night blaze was no accident and believe it was deliberately set inside the Mexican restaurant.
According to CW39, Houston police arrested Theresa Williams and charged her with arson after investigators say she ignited an explosive material inside the business. The outlet reports that Williams is being held at the Harris County Jail on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on Monday, Dec. 1.
Where It Happened
The fire broke out at the Don Jose location listed at 5305 Antoine Drive in northwest Houston, according to the restaurant’s contact information on its business website. The online listing also provides the phone number for the Antoine Drive spot.
Arson Charges And State Law
Under Texas law, starting a fire or causing an explosion with intent to damage property is a crime. As detailed in Texas Penal Code §28.02, arson is generally a felony offense, with penalties that can increase when explosives are involved or when the act puts people or places of assembly at risk.
What Comes Next
Williams is due back in court on Monday, Dec. 1, and remains in custody on a $15,000 bond, according to CW39. Investigators are still processing the scene, and prosecutors will decide if any additional charges are filed as more evidence comes in.
Authorities say the case is active and more details are expected to be released as the investigation and court proceedings move forward. This story will be updated when new public records or official statements become available.
