A Thanksgiving Day Uber ride on San Antonio’s North Side ended in an altercation between a rider and the driver, resulting in the passenger being tased and arrested, according to police. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon on Northwest Loop 410 near Zangs Road. Authorities say the man hit his Uber driver with a thermos before struggling with responding officers. Police reported no serious injuries, and the case is under investigation.
How the confrontation unfolded
Officers were sent around 2:25 p.m. to a disturbance on Northwest Loop 410 near Zangs Road, according to News 4 San Antonio. Police said the man argued with his Uber driver and hit him with a thermos, then grabbed and twisted an officer’s skin when they arrived. According to the report, officers used a Taser to subdue the man before arresting him. He was booked on charges including assault causing bodily injury and assault on a police officer.
What the charges could mean
Under Texas Constitution and Statutes, assault that causes bodily injury is usually a Class A misdemeanor, which can result in up to one year in county jail and fines. The law also allows for more serious felony charges if the victim is a public servant or an officer performing official duties. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge the man with a misdemeanor or felony as the investigation continues.
A busy stretch that keeps officers on call
The North Side section of Loop 410, where Thursday’s arrest occurred, has had recent police activity. Earlier this week, another incident in the area left an officer and a man with active warrants with minor injuries, as reported by KSAT. High traffic and holiday congestion can make routine calls more challenging in this area.
San Antonio police have not released the name of the man arrested or other details about the Thanksgiving incident. The story will be updated if SAPD or the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office provides more information.
