Get ready to replace your ho-ho-hos with ha-ha-has, as Theatre Arlington is decking the halls with a little mystery and comedy this holiday season. The local troupe is staging "The Game’s Afoot; or Holmes for the Holiday," a gripping yet humorous play set in the snowy December of 1936, where a Broadway star turned amateur detective aims to unravel a murder mystery among his festive gathering. The curtains will rise on December 5 and lower, marking the end of the run, on December 21, according to the City of Arlington.
For those looking for a merry twist on the classic whodunit, the show features Broadway's William Gillette, famed for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, who invites his castmates to his Connecticut castle for the holidays, but they get more drama than expected when a murder calls for some real-life sleuthing - things turn quickly from cozy to chaotic. The production brims with the expected madcap antics courtesy of playwright Ken Ludwig, and Theatre Arlington's Executive Producer Steven D. Morris says "the shows are Theatre Arlington’s gift to the community, as a way for families to laugh together and create great memories," in a statement per the City of Arlington.
There's no Scrooge when it comes to group entertainment this season, as Theatre Arlington is offering group ticket rates for parties of ten or more, so gather your gang and get ready for some detective work and chuckles. With performances every Friday at 7:30 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm, the show's schedule is built for weekend warriors and holiday shoppers alike.
