Sanford drivers should prepare for a shuffle in their daily commute tomorrow, November 19, as the CSX railroad crossing at South French Avenue (U.S. 17-92) requires urgent repairs. According to an announcement by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the lane shift is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the intersection with West 13th Street and Historic Goldsboro Boulevard.
The construction efforts are set to not only shift lanes but also temporarily close sidewalks within the work area. During this period, South French Avenue will be inaccessible from both West 13th Street and Historic Goldsboro Boulevard. Motorists will have to temporarily adjust to quickly adapt to an alternate route to reach or cross the affected U.S. highway.
In response to the closure, FDOT has provided clear detour instructions for travelers. Those on Historic Goldsboro Boulevard aiming for South French Avenue should take South Holly Avenue northbound, followed by a right on West 12th Street, leading them back to their intended route. Alternatively, drivers on West 13th Street looking to head south on South French Avenue are advised to go south on South Elm Avenue, then make a right on West 14th Street. If they're heading north, they'll need to take South Elm Avenue north to West 12th Street.
Officials caution motorists to expect delays and encourage staying alert by following detour signs during the railroad crossing work. For the latest updates on traffic conditions and the work schedule, FDOT recommends keeping an eye on the situation via their various communication channels.
