Tragedy unfolded on State Road 33 near Groveland Farms Road yesterday when two teenagers lost their lives in a vehicular collision. As reported by WFTV, a 2008 Toyota Scion attempting to overtake another vehicle in a no-passing zone collided with a 2021 Lincoln Aviator. The failed maneuver led to the deaths of the two teens at the scene.

The sequence of events, as described by the Florida Highway Patrol, involved the teen driver of the Scion hastily trying to pass another car. Upon realizing the Aviator's approach, the driver attempted to swerve back into the southbound lane. However, the car lost control and went to once again enter the northbound lane, where it was met with the oncoming Lincoln Aviator. The impact was severe enough to overturn the Scion, leading to the tragic outcome.

According to an accident report from the Leesburg-News, the driver, a 16-year-old Groveland girl, and her 17-year-old male passenger from Clermont were pronounced dead at the scene. The report highlighted the events that led up to the teen operating the vehicle to re-enter the northbound lane, putting them directly in the path of the Lincoln Aviator.

Also seriously injured in the accident was a 6-year-old child traveling in the Aviator, who was taken to an area hospital. The 75-year-old Aviator driver and two additional passengers, a 66-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment following the crash.

The ongoing investigation aims to fully ascertain the circumstances behind this devastating incident.
