Early Sunday morning, a vehicle plummeted approximately 70 feet off a cliff in Kagel Canyon, resulting in two people requiring urgent medical attention. According to the NBC Los Angeles report, the Los Angeles City and County Fire Departments conducted a joint rescue operation at around 4:20 a.m. near Glen Haven & Sholom Memorial Park on Kagel Canyon Road. The two individuals rescued, both aged 35, were transported to a trauma center.
Following the incident, having hiked down the slope, firefighters provided treatment to the victims so they could be safely hoisted by an LAFD air ambulance. Rushed to the hospital was a 35-year-old woman in serious condition and a 35-year-old man with stable vital signs. The Los Angeles Fire Department praised the cooperative efforts on their Facebook page, stating, "exceptional teamwork in the air and on the ground from both agencies brought this incident to a safe conclusion."
Details surrounding the cause of the accident are still unclear; the reasons for how and why the vehicle descended the cliff have yet to be determined. In tandem with the initial efforts, personnel from LAFD and LACoFD collaborated to reach the two patients and facilitate their rescue. An LAFD alert highlighted the urgency of the situation, describing the woman's condition as at least serious and the man's as fair. Both were lifted out of the precarious location by an air ambulance, signifying the critical work of the rescue teams in mitigating further harm.
The LAFD ALERT revealed that the rescue operation was designated under INC#0262 and employed both ground and airborne resources to secure the patients' safe retrieval and immediate medical transportation. The complexities inherent in such a rescue underscore the preparedness and the efficient response of emergency services to unforeseen perils that befall residents in the sprawling urban environs of Los Angeles.
